What flowers can do for you on your wedding day: Our Suggestions: A bride’s design concept sets the mood and stage for her entire wedding and it all begins with a color palette. Whether she selects a beautiful array of jewel toned colors or she is geared toward the classic look of whites and greens, she will ultimately create her palette of colors which will bring the wedding together in every way she imagines. Your wedding flowers are a great way to express your individuality, and may be the most unusual element of your wedding. Flowers the same color of the dress will look subtle and monochromatic and not have a “pop” affect in photographs. Choosing flowers with contrasting tones will have a definite “wow factor” as the girls are walking down the aisle and in the pictures as well. The bridal bouquet lives on in your photographs, and the bridesmaids flowers are an opportunity to bring your whole color palate together. If you are getting married in your family church, the flowers really make the church say celebrate – this is not Sunday Mass. But the real wow is at the reception, the linens are down, the wine glasses are sparkling and the flowers fill the room. How to choose the florist that is right for you: Choosing a florist, like selecting all of your other vendors, should be based on communication, style and budget. Find a florist who shares your creative style and vibe. You should feel that your florist understands the look you are going for, and a couple inspiration photos will go a long way in helping them understand your vision. And if you are working within a specific budget – be clear with your florist about your limits and expectations.
Your florist is going to interpret your vision within the limits of your budget. If you come in with photos from the Jessica Simpson wedding, but only want to spend $100 on your centerpieces, know that your florist is going to do a more modest interpretation. And understand the seasonality of the product can affect your wedding. I always think the most successful weddings are those where I get a lot of latitude in floral selection, so if something is pretty, I can use it, and if it comes in not so nice, I don’t have to be obligated to include it. Giving your florist some artistic license is a great idea. (Diane Mouton - Fat Cat Flowers) |
